Banner End of the Year for Verde Valley School

Verde Valley School enjoyed a banner end to their school year. Below’s a recap of some of the great work & athletic achievements produced by their students:

Verde Valley Wins Coed Spring Soccer Title

The VVS co-ed soccer team concluded its spring season undefeated at 12-0 defeating Oak Creek Ranch School 3-0 in the Northern Arizona Athletic Association (NAAA) championship game.

Verde Valley Students Win Earth Day Prize

In the academic and science arena, the VVS SEED (Students Engaged in Environmental Development) team was selected as a top project in Project Earth’s 2012 United States Earth Day Contest.

A waste audit data, the prize winning project was used to develop a new composting program and to expand the school’s recycling program.

Project goals included:

  • reduce the school’s waste flow to landfill by diverting compostables and recyclables so that the campus will have only one dumpster rather than three;
  • educate all students and staff about turning organic waste into a resource (compost) and about multiple ways to reuse/recycle;
  • experience the joys of our natural environment by getting unplugged (no electronics day) and getting outside (variety of outdoor recreational opportunities).

Verde Valley Students Win Art Prizes

Emerson Sirin-Galis and Ly “Harriet” Bui received “Best of Show” awards in the Northern Arizona Watercolor Society Student Art Show in Sedona.

Bui won for the two-dimensional category and Sirin-Galis won in the three-dimensional category. Each award came with a $150 prize.

The student art show is an annual juried show in which students from many northern Arizona schools participate.
