Making Your Dorm Room Home

Dorm roomHere’s a fun take on making your dorm room into home from Brentwood College School. The tone is spot on in terms walking into a blank room having to negotiate the decorating process with your roommate(s).

While the fridge was never allowed in my experiences, I second the ‘make the space comfortable’ and ‘give the room some personality’ advice of the piece. Your room needs to be comfortable; it needs to be your space (preferably disconnected from the hustle and bustle of school life); and functional.

“During some of the more intellectually grueling periods (i.e. December and June exams) your dorm can be your best friend, your de-stressor, a place where you can close your door from the endless hustle and bustle of Brentwood life and unwind with some music, temporarily close your eyes and prop up your legs. Your dorm is a sanctuary!”(BC)

The best piece of advice that I didn’t quote- periodically, mix it up; move the furniture around; change the layout; if a different arrangement works better, try it. Don’t let the environment get fixed or stale.
