Three Things Families Should Know About Stevenson School

Stevenson School admission director, Tom Sheppard, shares three insights into the approaches that encourage Stevenson students to practice an active and engaged life.

Personal responsibility functions as a crux of the Stevenson experience.  Students work from the mandate; “you are responsible for your education” and this responsibility extends into what, and how, each student learns.

Stevenson seeks students who are “angular and passionate.”  Well rounded is not the order of the day at Stevenson.  Stevenson students live and work through strong talents and interests that focus them, make them independent, and take them deeply into subjects.

Deep serious commitment on the part of each individual builds a community of independent minded and self reliant students who understand the differences in personalities and pursuits.  At Stevenson, there is “no axis of cool” and everyone appreciates difference.

One cannot speak or write about Stevenson without mentioning the natural beauty of its setting.  Quite simply, it may be the most beautiful place any student, or faulty member, ever lives.
