Gone is the food service in is Kristin Aldrich as Director of Food Services at Verde Valley School.
Aldrich is a local resident and she will be working to establish a commitment to local food while reducing or eliminating much of the processed food that kitchens can sometimes fall-back on.
“Our mission is to prepare more home-style cooking; farm to table…We want to teach kids to eat properly and make better choices with the food they put in their bodies,” Aldrich explained. (VVS)
Aldrich comes to VVS with a quintessential boarding school background- varied and engaged. She worked previously as the Food Service Director at Sedona-Oak Creek School District. She holds a B.A in Elementary Education as well as a teaching credential.
Verde Valley’s announcement offers this description:
“Kristin’s experience ranges from a pastry chef at an organic bakery to managing kitchens that created Indian chutneys, spices and grilling sauces. She has traveled abroad extensively, enjoys foods from many regions and plans to incorporate a more worldly flair to the VVS cuisine.” (VVS)
Never underestimate the power of food and the structure of the dining hall as part of a boarding school’s daily lessons.
