Stephanie Hamilton, Apple’s senior manager of learning and information technology, spoke to Santa Catalina School parents this past Friday presenting the opportunities, and changes, made possible by technology in the learning process.
A former high school teacher with 31 years experience, Hamilton sees connecting to, and the empowerment of, each individual learner as key transformations made possible by technology in education.
Selected Hamilton remarks as reported by Monterey County The Herald:
“We need more focus on self-directed learning, and technology helps support that…Schools in the past have not been good at adapting to the individual learning styles of students.”
“To succeed in the 21st century, we have to be more innovative…The past relied primarily on printed information that was filtered and limited. Now, we have vast resources of information, including digital.
“Our goal will be how to teach students to go through all this information and make sense of it..Master teachers also have to become master learners. We can’t compete unless we’re up on technology.”
