Competitive Sailing at a Boarding School: Athenian School Sailing Wins High School Regatta

Competitive Sailing at a Boarding SchoolSailing in the Silver Fleet, Athenian (a co-ed boarding & day school in Danville, CA) sailors defeated 26 competing teams in the Pacific Coastal Interscholastic Sailing Association‘s High School Regatta.

The Silver Fleet win is important to the Athenian sailing program.

Much like European soccer leagues where winning teams move up to compete at a higher competitive level after a strong season and poorly performing teams find themselves relegated to a lesser level, winning the Silver Fleet opens the opportunity for Athenian sailors to move up to the more competitive Gold Fleet.

Athenian School SailingOne team member observed:

“If we continue on this road, we might be able to make the cut next year. Hopefully we will be able to improve and recruit enough people to compete at that level, but for right now we are doing great as it is!”
