In a program called “Why Thatcher?“, The Thacher School has put together a fun, but serious program, that lets students share their experiences with accepted families (see videos below).
“Why Thatcher?” challenged students to create a short film answering the title question with this simple, direct charge:
“In several minutes, show what you love about Thacher and what you think prospective students and their families should understand about the experience here.” (TS)
From three perspectives, these shorts do a great job of conveying the feeling of “what it feels like to go to school at Thacher.” While all three videos rely primarily on images, “Katie and Auden’s Video” uses more direct voicing.
Ana Urgiles “13 the named principal in one video explains her groups work:
“We wanted our film to be a genuine portrayal of Thacher students and their activities, through sports, classes, and riding. We wanted to show Thacher’s welcoming community and what people most love about Thacher.”(TS)
As accepted students and parents weigh all of the variables, and work to balance the shifting equations of choosing the school that best fits where the student stands and where the student wants to be, little is more powerful and persuasive than the voices of students finding success and working hard.
The “Why Thacher?” videos give students and parents an additional angle to more effectively work through a crucial piece of their final boarding school choice that we mentioned the other day…imagine yourself going to school there. “Why Thacher? videos make it easy to imagine.
