Professional Art Comes to St. Michaels University School

Painter Tara Nicholson brings professional art perspectives and practices to St. Michaels University School through the New Extremes Program.

Under Nicholson’s tutelage SMUS students will experiment, learn oil paint techniques, and create a piece for display at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. In terms of professional practices, students will “also learn how to write an artist’s statement and to present their work professionally.”(SMUS)

Head of Art Anna Forbes told SMUS Review:

“We find the program, which comes to us free, is enormously worthwhile…We want Tara to work with oils because we don’t normally use these in the curriculum and it is giving a new dimension for the AP students to expand their portfolios.”(SMUS)

SMUS is one of only five schools in Victoria chosen for New Extremes program and this is the third time that SMUS has been part of the program.
